Boulder natives return home for Rowdytown 5

Almost a year after their documentary “Dream Big: A Big Gigantic Story” and fresh off of dropping their sixth and newest album, “Brighter Future,” Boulder natives Big Gigantic got back to their roots this week, and sat down with the Boulder Weekly to talk about their upcoming gig at Red Rocks. The band will be playing the venue on September 23 and 24, as a part of Rowdytown 5. The band was the first ever act to use live projection at the venue, and Big G will definitely be throwing it down for this show in their hometown before they hit the road on tour. Other acts playing include Kill the NoiseVanic and Louis the Child.

2016-2017 series begins for the Boulder Symphony Orchestra

The Boulder Symphony Orchestra music director Devin Patrick Hughes is excited to start this year’s music series. The series theme is ‘Inspiration Interrupted, and each performance will include a major symphony and minor concerto. The first performance will feature Ludwig van Beethoven and Sergei Rachmaninoff, and will feature the winner of the International Keyboard Odyssiad and Festival, Daria Kiseleva. The kick off of the symphony’s 2016-2017 series is on Saturday, with a program called Fate Knocks, Symphony Rocks. The concert will be held at First Presbyterian Church at 7 p.m.

Rising R&B artist Gallant to play homecoming

Get ready to get down at the University of Colorado’s homecoming — R&B artist Gallant has been announced as the star of the show. The Maryland native weaves together a smooth mix of R&B and electronic music with a voice that could melt butter in a blizzard. The newcomer dropped his debut album earlier this year, “Ology,”and recently kicked off his tour in Washington, D.C.. He’ll be stopping in at the Glenn Miller Ballroom in Boulder on Oct. 12, with the group RKCB. Tickets for the event are $5 for students, and $10 for non-students, and are available here.
