COLONIAL HEIGHTS — Community members and leaders joined together Friday, April 29, to celebrate Arbor Day in Colonial Heights.

The Colonial Heights City Council, along with the city’s beautification committee, held it’s twelfth Arbor Day celebration, honoring the late Roger Green by planting a Weeping Subhirtella Cherry Tree in front of Colonial Heights Middle School, where Green was previously principal.

According to Rita Feasenmyer, past president of the Chamber of Commerce, the tree will grow to be 20 to 30 feet tall, with a horizontal span of 15 to 20 feet.

Several community leaders spoke at the event, including the Beautification Committee Chairperson, Jessica Sears Younce, who spoke to the crowd about how Green affected the community in such a positive way.

“I think, I know, that all of our lives were better for knowing Roger,” said Younce.

Green’s wife and children were in attendance also to honor his memory.
