Boulder native performs on NBC’s ‘The Voice’
Tuesday night NBC aired it’s blind auditions for NBC’s hit show ‘The Voice‘ which included an appearance from Boulder resident Halle Tomlinson,18.
The singer, who is also a music teacher, performed a Billy Joel song for the judges, Miley Cyrus, Blake Shelton, Alicia Keys and Adam Levine, and two of the judges liked what they heard. Adam Levine and Alicia Keys both wanted Tomlinson to join their team of singers on this season of the show, and Tomlinson chose Keys to be her mentor. In the end, viewers choose who wins the competition, which comes with a prize of $100,000 and a recording contract.
Tomlinson is a music teacher at several local School of Rock locations and has performed at Red Rocks and Lollapalooza in her career.Stay tuned to ‘The Voice’ to see more of Tomlinson in the future.
The Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra to open its 2016 season
The Boulder Philharmonic opens its 2016-17 season with duo pianists Greg Anderson and Elizabeth Joy Roe. The orchestra will have it’s first show on Saturday, Oct. 8, in Boulder at 7:30 p.m., and also on Sunday, Oct. 9, in Denver, at 2 p.m..
The Boulder show will be at the Mackey Auditorium, while the Denver show will be at the Pinnacle Performing Arts Complex. In Boulder, tickets to the show will cost between $13 and $45, and will be between $15 and $45 in Denver. More information can be found at boulderphil.org.
Boulder singer-songwriter sings against the Dakota pipeline
During a recent protest against the Dakota pipeline at the Boulder County Courthouse, local musician Silent Bear performed a song in response to the controversial issue.
Set to the tune of “Maggie’s Farm” by Bob Dylan, “The Dakota Access Pipeline Dirty River Blues” is a song blatantly expressing how against the pipeline Silent Bear is, while he sings to tune to Kelcy Warren, the CEO of Energy Transfer Partners, the company spearheading the pipeline project.
Silent Bear has performed with another folk legend, Pete Seeger, and owns the record company Music Road Records. He has been involved in social rights before, such as the fight to free Leonard Peltier. Silent Bear will be performing in Boulder soon, so keep an ear out to hear more from this folk singer.
