PETERSBURG — A new business has opened in downtown Petersburg that will help add a little bling to your wardrobe.
Bling Consignments, owned by Kimberly Ann Calos, features designer merchandise found in local estate sales as well as handpicked items created by local artists. The shop is a part of the parent company, Petersburg Pickers, which is also owned by Calos.
The new shop gives the company a space to feature items from the warehouse store and also features dressing rooms so that customers can try on the items before they buy them, an option that is not in place at the warehouse location.
“We can’t have a dressing room in a warehouse where we barely have heat. So this is why we did this venture, so we could have anything we want to sell from high end to low end,” Calos said.
Located at 10 Bollingbrook St. in downtown Petersburg, the shop features home goods, such as paintings, custom greeting cards, and other decorating knickknacks, as well apparel and accessories, such as jewelry, woven scarves and hats.
“In the warehouse, we do mostly estate stuff, and in here we’re doing the higher end, classic, trendy, designer stuff that was sort of missing,” Calos said.
While purchases in the shop will help spruce up your image, they’ll also give back to the community. Every purchase made at Bling Consignments gives 10% of the sale to a local nonprofit, the first being St. Joseph School.
“We’re gonna give back 10% to the community. We hope the community supports us and in turn supports our local organizations, which makes us better,” Calos said.
The consignment shop takes a little bit of everything to sell back to the community and is always looking for consignments. Items can be taken at the store or at the warehouse location.
Bling Consignments will hold its grand opening on Saturday, Feb. 1, from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., and is located a block from the Picker’s Warehouse at 10 Bollingbrook St. The grand opening will feature door prizes and giveaways for attending customers.
