HOPEWELL — An award-winning barbecue restaurant in Petersburg is setting its sights on opening a new location in Hopewell.

At a Hopewell community meeting on Tuesday, it was announced that Saucy’s Walk-Up Bar.B.Q., located at 5th and Bollingbrook streets in Petersburg, was looking into bringing their business to the downtown area of Hopewell.

“We are in the preliminary talks right now. We haven’t really locked anything in so we don’t have a formal agreement yet, but we are working with the town and we hope that it will come to fruition,” said Tom McCormack, owner of Saucy’s.

The current location has been in business for three and a half years and was awarded by Southern Living magazine in June of 2012 for having “The South’s Best Butt” as one of the 20 best barbecue spots in the South.

McCormack said since the award, business has picked up, leading to the restaurant seeking a second location, which would be located in Hopewell.

“I spend a lot of time in Hopewell, I come out there every other weekend, and I just like the town,” McCormack said.

McCormack says that currently there is no set location for the business, but there are a few being looked out as potential homes for the new Saucy’s location.

The new location would follow suit with the current location, taking up operations inside a shipping container.
