PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Board of Supervisors awarded a bid for construction on the new Carson Fire and EMS Station in the amount of $1,733,250 at the Sept. 9 meeting.

The bid for construction was awarded to Evans Construction Inc., which submitted the lowest bid of the nine different companies that submitted bids to the board.

The project, which began in April with the demolition of the abandoned Carson Elementary School, includes building an 11,488-square-foot, one-story building. The facility will include sleeping and cooking quarters, an office, day room, training room, and five bay garages for emergency vehicles. There will also be a community center, which will hold approximately 125 people.

According to the Director of General Services Bill Hamby, the range of bids submitted for the project was from $1,733,250 to $2,092,000.

The design for the building was completed by architectural firm Art and Architecture earlier this year. The Board of Supervisors allocated approximately $2.3 million for the project, which included the price of the demolition of the old school as well.

Evans Construction Inc. included a completion date of one year with their bid for the project.
