COLONIAL HEIGHTS — A new timetable has been established on the purchase of old courthouse property in Colonial Heights, which will be the site for a new Kroger.
The Colonial Heights City Council approved an amendment on Tuesday, August 25, which allows for a new timeline for a purchase agreement between the city and Kroger Limited Partnership for the property at 401 Temple Avenue, which is approximately 11.168 acres.
The new agreement between Kroger and the city sets a new timeline for closing on the property. This must happen on or before October 30, in the amount of $2,559,392, and construction is anticipated to begin within 90 of closing. If construction does not begin within the 90 days, the city will be able to reacquire the property for 2.4 million. The store is anticipated to open by December 31, 2016.
Plans for the construction of a new Kroger at this site were originally agreed upon in December of 2013.
The purchase of the property and beginning construction was delayed due to unspecified circumstances. The project was delayed previously and was set to be purchased by Jan. 1, with construction beginning no later than May of 2016. This timeline was amended, giving a new closing date of March 31.
