Colonial Heights schools chief gets contract extension

COLONIAL HEIGHTS — The Colonial Heights School Board announced Tuesday, Nov. 17, the extension of Dr. Joseph Cox’s contract as Superintendent for the Colonial Heights School System.

The extension was discussed at a closed meeting on Nov. 9 and agreed upon.
School Board Chair Mike Yates announced the extension, which will go until June of 2018. The current contract with the superintendent was agreed upon in March of 2007 and was originally set to span from July 1, 2012, until June 30, 2016.

“It’s been an honor to serve,” said Dr. Cox.”I really appreciate the board’s confidence in my leadership and look forward to serving.”

In addition to extending his contract, Dr. Cox will also see an increase in the allowed vehicle allowance, from $400 to $500, but his salary of $124,507 per year will remain the same.

Prior to his time as superintendent, Dr. Cox was employed by the Colonial Heights School System at Colonial Heights Junior High School, teaching 7th and 8th grades, from 1976 until 1985. Dr. Cox has been superintendent for Colonial Heights schools since 2001.
