COLONIAL HEIGHTS — A fresh graduate from Colonial Heights High School will become one of the newest members of the Virginia Tech cheerleading squad beginning the new school year.
At CHHS, Ashleigh Rush was a member of the second team all-conference for the 2013 squad, a member of the first-team all-conference for the 2014 squad, a member of the all-academic conference for 2013 and 2014, and was also the captain of the 2014 varsity football squad.
“Ashley is the type of athlete you could always hope for. She is dependable and a leader. She meets every challenge with a smile and determination to make it work even when there’s an injury involved,” said Mary Vaughn, Rush’s cheerleading coach at the high school. The school brought together friends and family of Rush to celebrate her next step as an NCAA Division I student-athlete.
